GAME OVERVIEW
The premise of the game follows a simple set-collecting organization. Draw and discard cards from the pile on the table and build sets according to designated categories (see meld combinations for acceptable sets).
The first player to complete their hand and get rid of their cards wins the round. Rounds are played until a player achieves a certain score (as determined by the number of players).
PLEASE NOTE: There is an additional puzzle on the backs of each suit that players can solve in order to reveal a complete work of art that was looted during the Second World War and remains missing today. For more information on these artworks, please refer to the Monuments Men and Women Foundation website (MFAA – Join the Hunt)
SET UP
Shuffle the cards and deal
2 players: 10 cards
3-4 players: 7 cards
Place the remaining cards in a pile facedown in the middle of the table and flip the top card so that it faces up and place it beside the pile
GAMEPLAY
- The first player starts and either selects the faceup card or draws a new card from the pile
- At any point, a player may lay off a meld
to lay off: to place a complete set on the table
a meld: a complete set of cards
- Before a player’s turn ends, they must discard a card from their hand, and place it face up on the discard pile
- The next player goes and can choose to take the recently discarded card, or a new one from the new pile
- Note: you cannot discard the card you chose from the faceup pile on the same turn you took it, but you can discard the card you chose from the facedown pile on the same turn you took it
- Gameplay continues in a clockwise fashion until a player finishes their hand by completing sets
- If the deck is depleted before someone finishes their hand, the discard pile is reshuffled
- If the deck is depleted a second time before a player wins, the round is moot and a new game starts with new cards
chaos agent cards
There are 8 chaos agent cards – 4 that randomly affect you as a player, and 4 that allow you to disrupt another player
- These cards are shuffled into the deck and are picked up at random and count as your turn
- Most cards are effective immediately, but there is one that can be played at anytime during the round on your turn in addition to your turn
scoring
- When a player wins the round, each player counts the sets they laid off on the table
- each complete set is 20 points
- The remaining cards in the losing players’ hands are calculated and subtracted from their overall score
